A Case Report: Unusual Peritonitis due to Perforated Stomach in an infant

Abstract
98 days o13 female child was aimittei with the findings of vomiting, fever and abdominal distension for approximately 24 hours duration.
Examinations at the time of admission showed rather soft abdomen without muscular rigidity, marked distension of abdomen, W.S.C. 22700.
X-ray of abdomen taken in upright and flat position, but the only flat abdominal findings was available and that showed a gas shadow in L. U. Q.
While child was under observations with levine tube insertion and continuous Wangenstein suction, with proper intravenous hydration, the child was expired.
The post-mortem examinations revealed that;
(1 ) Generalized peritonitis.
(2) Turbid Pus-like fluid about 200 cc. was found in the peritoneal cavity.
(3) Perforation of the fundus of the stomach.
(4) No other pathological findings were noted.
Review of the literature in regard to this subject, stomach perforation in infant and children, disclosed that one may frequently see the soft abdomen, no rigidity of abdominal wall, and that few children were diagnosed pre-operatively and got the benefit of surge
Good pre-operative evaluation, particularly upright plate of X-ray of the abdomen, may diagnose the condition.
